| Cal-YAF PAC Campaigns for Moorlach When John Moorlach decided to run for County Supervisor, he knew the race wouldn’t be easy. The public employee union bosses viewed his election – perhaps rightly – as a direct threat to their cushy posts. They propped up a puppet candidate, and then backed him with hundreds of thousands of dollars in a vast independent expenditure effort to try to keep John Moorlach out of office. In response, Cal-YAF PAC organized an effort to fight back – and in an unusual way. Rather than their traditional method of courting true-believing Republicans, Cal-YAF PAC decided to a)court Vietnamese voters in what we understand was California’s first-ever Vietnamese-language independent expenditure mailing, and b)court Democrats for Moorlach by putting conservative ideas to fluffy, generally liberal hot-button issues. The results were staggering. John Moorlach came close to tripling his opponents’ vote total on Election Day, thanks at least in small part to Cal-YAF PAC’s efforts. Viet Language Mailer |
