Brandon Powers Named Chairman of California Young Americans for Freedom

August 19, 2004

Pasadena, CA – Chad Morgan has stepped down as Chairman of California Young Americans for Freedom, passing leadership of the organization to former Los Angeles County YAF Chairman, Brandon Powers.

Powers had also served as Executive Director of the Cal-YAF PAC. Under his guidance, Cal-YAF PAC directed an Independent Expenditure campaign against Gayle Pacheco in the Republican Primary for the 60th Assembly District. The PAC’s activities contributed to her defeat this past March.

Morgan became Chairman of Cal-YAF in 2000 and led the organization through several significant projects. A few highlights of Morgan’s tenure as Cal-YAF Chairman include:
- Promotion of French products boycott by holding a demonstration at the French Consulate in Los Angeles where French wine was dumped down the gutter.
- Organization of a yellow ribbon campaign to support the troops with a website, YellowRibbonAmerica.com. Over one hundred support our troops bumper stickers are still distributed each week because of that website.
“I’m proud of my accomplishments over the past several years, and I’m looking forward to helping Brandon lead the next generation of YAFers,” said Morgan.

“Being chosen to lead YAF in California is humbling,” said Powers. “But it is also very exciting, and I am anxious to get started. Ronald Reagan said we should always paint our beliefs in bold colors, and not hide them in pale pastels. That’s what we intend on doing.”

“YAF is different from so many other conservative organizations, in that instead of being lead blindly by partisanship, supporting any candidate with an R after their name, we calibrate our compass by a stated set of beliefs, the Sharon Statement.” Powers continued. “We have, and will always put principles over politics.”

“Looking back at all the great conservative leaders who have served as Cal-YAF Chairmen, I just hope I can measure up,” Powers concluded.

Young Americans for Freedom was founded in 1960 at the Sharon, CT estate of William F. Buckley. Out of this meeting came the Sharon Statement, the written statement of beliefs that has guided YAF for over 40 years.
